Lake Gaston First Responders – NOW IN SERVICE!
Midnight July 1, 2010 marked a milestone in the history of the Lake Gaston Fire Dept. All the preparation and work is finished and now we are proud to announce that the Lake Gaston First Responders are now in service! From this point forward the Lake Gaston Fire Dept. will be staffed 24/7 with two trained personnel. “This is a project that we have been working on for four years now, and it makes me so proud to see it action.” -EMS Captain Chris Roux.
July 1, 2010 marked the 20 year anniversary of the Lake Gaston Volunteer Fire Dept. and we could think of no better way to celebrate than to find yet another way to serve our friends and neighbors. “Everyone in this area should be very proud of what is going on here; with out the help and support from this community this project would never have been successful” -1st EMS Lieutenant Clint Brame.
The members on the LGVFD have been hard at work the last few months working on all the detail like building bunk rooms, bathroom and living area to accommodate for staffing; as well as going through state inspections. “A lot of work went into putting this together and I couldn’t be more proud of all my guys and the extra hours they out in to make it happen” -Fire Chief Doug Blanton
The primary vehicle to be used in the First Responder calls is “Squad 8” this is reminiscent of “Squad 51” from the 1970s show Emergency. This show begins with the pilot movie showing the paramedic program in its infancy, before legislation is in effect to allow the paramedics to function independently. “We felt like we are breaking new ground in the Lake Gaston/Bracey area the same way depicted in the TV show; so we found it fitting to name the truck respectively” -1st EMS Lieutenant Clint Brame.
The Lake Gaston Fire Dept. is looking forward to serving the community just as it has for the last 20 years but now in a new way.
